I am currently looking for the best places to visit in February in India for my next trip. So, it was best to jot it all down for you too.

Let’s check out all the upcoming festivals and how we can possibly make our way to any of these this month.

With flight prices skyrocketing and trains going on waiting lists one after another, we have got to buckle up.

If you’re like me – someone who wants to have a list of February places to see but doesn’t know how to go about the budget, hi 5 bro!

From Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan, from Sikkim to Coimbatore, I am simply scrolling through places and coming up with wacky ideas.

Best places to visit in February in India

While most blog posts will give you a comprehensive idea of the best places to visit in February in India 2023, I went a step ahead to research better.

Here is a list of upcoming festivals and the regular list of places to see according to the weather.

Rajasthan

Ahem! Sorry for all my biases because it is the best state in India for me, but there is genuinely a lot to see here this month.

Let’s understand that November and February are the most favourable times to come here. December and January are extremely cold, while the rest of the months are pretty hot.

February is the best month to visit Rajasthan because it’s perfect in terms of weather and festivities.

I came here myself between February 15 to 17 last year, and that’s where it all began. But now let’s move on to the festivals and the places to visit within the state:

1. Beneshwar Fair

Date: February 2 to 5

Immerse into the magic of a tribal fair in the rural town of Beneshwar. It exhibits the rich tribal culture of the Bhils. The mesmerizing views of the waters at the backdrop of the event make it all the more Instagram-worthy.

2. Jaisalmer

Date: February 3 to 5

The desert festival of Jaisalmer makes Rajasthan one of the best places to visit in February in India. Book your weekend immediately if you don’t want to miss watching camel races, puppet shows, tug of war, camel polo matches, and much more.

Jaipur to Jaisalmer distance is 615 km and takes about 10 hours by train. Places to visit in Jaisalmer include Patwon Ki Haveli, Jaisalmer Fort, and Nathmal ki Haveli, among others.

Do you know Kiara Advani and Siddharth Malhotra are tying the knot on February 6 in Jaisalmer? Well! If you’re trying to get lucky getting glimpses of this couple at the Jaisalmer Palace, it is your time to give it a go!

3. Jalore

Date: February 15 to 17

Jalore is famous for its granite production. Jaipur to Jalore distance is 415 km, and you can avail of trains to come over. Immerse into the beauty of authentic Rajasthani culture and experience the heritage.

The places to visit in Jalore include the Jalore Fort, Sundha Mata Temple, and Shri Sire Mandir, among others.

Madhaya Pradesh

I am currently simping a lot for Madhya Pradesh. I want to go to Ujjain to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Mahakaleshwar. Also, I want to see Khajuraho and Sanchi Stupa. Okay! Gwalior Fort has been on my list since I watched the Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon, Luka Chuppi.

Check out when to come to Madhya Pradesh and why:

4. Ujjain

Date: February 17 and 18

If you want to visit one of the Jyotirlingas when coming to Madhya Pradesh in February, you must visit Ujjain. While the event is on February 18, the celebrations begin in advance.

It is important to note that the crowd during such an auspicious event will be challenging. But this is a must-visit site when considering places to see in Madhya Pradesh.

5. Khajuraho Dance Festival

Date: February 20 to 26

Among the best places to visit in India in February, you must add Khajuraho if visiting MP. The Bhopal to Khajuraho distance is 374km and takes about 7-8 hours.

The place is the epitome of intimacy engraved as the monumental cluster exhibits the forward mindset of Hinduism and Jainism. Located in the Chhatarpur district, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a treat.

You will be overjoyed if witnessing the beauty of art and culture while witnessing the dance festival that will happen here during the mentioned dates.

Sikkim

If you are looking for the best places to visit in India in February for honeymoon, you can’t miss out on Sikkim. From mesmerizing views of pearl-white mountains to waterfalls. You have to come here to witness beauty like none other.

6. Losar Festival

Date: February 21

Want to enjoy the Tibetan new year like the locals? Book your dates to come to Sikkim in February. As the state borders the country, many of its cultural influences are similar.

Best Places to Visit in February in India 2023

Losar is the first day of the Tibetan new year. It is widely celebrated in Ladakh and Sikkim. It is a Buddhist festival, and the celebrations go on for two weeks. So, even if you can’t make it on the main day, it is wise to come over around that time.

From Gangtok to Rumket Dharma Centre distance is 22 km and takes around one hour by road. It is best to come over by February 19 to experience Gutor Chaam reflecting on the battle between good and evil.

Tamil Nadu

Most travel websites will include Tamil Nadu as one of the best places to visit in February in India. I included it too, but not because it is the best time to visit Kodaikanal, Coonoor, or Yercaud. There is a special festival you can be a part of, so let’s check out that first.

7. Maha Shivratri

Date: February 18

Maha Shivratri is quite an event at Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore. We witnessed the same across social media channels last year. The star-studded event was full of people, and the crowd was gigantic.

Witnessing performances through music and dance to celebrate the event makes this place worth a visit. There is all probability of being in the presence of Sadh Guru himself.

8. Thaipusam

Date: February 5

Thaipusam is an auspicious event for the Tamil community of Thai. It is believed that Goddess Parvati gave Kartikeya the divine spear on this day. Kartikeya is worshipped as Murugan in Tamil Nadu and is widely worshipped across the south.

Thaipusam marks the day when Murugun defeated Soorapadman and commences on a full moon night.

Kerala

The weather in Kerala is warm all year round. Coming over during a comparatively less warm month will help you have a breather. This place is known for its history, backwaters, hill stations, beaches, and more.

Thaipusam

Thaipooyam Mahotsavam or Thaipusam (as we read earlier) is also celebrated in Shree Subrahmanya Temple in Alappuzha, located in Kerala. The Thiruvananthapuram to Alappuzha distance is 158 km and takes about 4 hours to reach by road.

9. Pariyanampetta Pooram

Date: February 13 to 19

Pariyanampetta Pooram locates in Palakkad. If you’re travelling from the capital city, then the Thiruvananthapuram to Palakkad distance would be close to 350 km. Every year, during this time, Goddess Bhagavathy is celebrated at this temple dedicated to her.

There are paintings that records the pictures of the goddess drawn on the ground. All seven days, the worshippers witness this ritualistic drawing called Kalamezhuthu Pattu. There are live performances dedicated to the deity throughout the festival.

On the final day of the event, a ceremonial procession involves 21 elephants adorned in vibrant colours. As this mighty animal is considered holy to Keralites, people gather on the streets to seek blessings.

Gujarat

I am a little surprised not to find Gujarat on the list of best places in India to visit in February. Nonetheless had to add it because this north Indian state also has favourable weather this time.

The top places to visit in Gujarat includes Somnath Mandir, Sabarmati Ashram, and Gir National Park. However, the exclusive festivals happening across the state this month are also an experience to indulge yourself in.

10. Rann Utsav

Date: Till February 20

While Rann Utsav began on October 26, it will end in February. It is the best way to explore the cultural side of Gujarat. Folk music and dance connect people, and they come together to make you vibe. The art and craft exhibit ethnicity and makes you wonder about the beauty of India craftsmanship.

Be a part of the camel festival and explore Gujarati culture and food. Finally, immerse into the beautiful white sands on a full moon night to capture some of the most breathtaking views of Gujarat.
