After spending two days at the cheapest lakeside hotel in Udaipur, it was time for us to spend one day at Lake Pichola Hotel. We booked an auto that took us from Nathi Ghat to Ambrai Road near Chandpole.
The grand entrance welcomed us into the haveli and had mirror work done all over. The lobby area looked right into the Lake Pichola and was filled with antique décor blended with a modern touch. There were pictures prominent to Mewar royalty and chandeliers adding colors to the white background.
Our booking was already done so all we needed to do was sign and check-in. We were welcomed with a mocktail and a garland, a gesture of hospitality you’d typically expect at a premium hotel in Rajasthan.
Lake Pichola Hotel room
We stayed in room 103 which was a flight of stairs away from the lobby area. It had a gate made of solid wood adorned by mirror work on the wall outside and the wood carvings complemented each other.
Amenities
As we entered we saw our washroom on the left and then moved onto our one-bedroom stay that had a dressing table and chair, a cupboard, TV, fridge, comfy bed, and a lovely view of Gangaur Ghat. I hugged onto the pillar as I couldn’t believe I was on the opposite side as the view from this side could only be experienced from this hotel.
Washroom
One fun thing about a luxury room is the washroom. While I was expecting a bathtub with this hotel room, we had other perks instead. My happiness knew no bounds because I’m particular about washroom hygiene and the aesthetics were quite pleasing. The mirror looked royal with glasswork across the border, and there were complimentary toiletries like:
- shampoo
- shower gel
- moisturizer
- safety pin
- soap
- shower cap
- toothpaste
- toothbrush
- hair dryer
- fan
- separate bathing area
Lake Pichola Hotel swimming pool
The swimming pool is located in the rooftop and there are winding stairways overlooking the outer part of the hotel to walk you there. You can also use an elevator but I decided to take stairs to explore the beautiful Lake Pichola Hotel and how it winds and unwinds.

Lake Pichola restaurant Upre 1559 AD
The pool is located beside the Upre 1559 AD restaurant and it has two floors. We had dinner here and had to reserve the place by 4 pm to dine at 7 pm. You don’t have to stay at the Lake Pichola Hotel to have this experience. But reservations are required and punctuality is necessary.
A candle light experience with the overview of Lake Pichola during the night is quite mystical. We were greeted with live Indian classical music, a dimly lit romantic ambience, and the peaceful charm of the Old City.
We ordered a non-veg kebab platter and tried Dungar Maas the second time after having it in Royal Rajwada on day before. The Dungar Maas here was tastier and had the authentic taste of smoked mutton filled with the right blend of spices. We also had beer at the side and Rabri with Gulkand for dessert. Lastly, we looked right into the City Palace and how beautifully it was lit up at this time of the night.

Buffet breakfast
One special thing about staying at a heritage haveli in Rajasthan is finding the sun greet you in the morning as it always faces the east. It was time for us to walk down to the lobby for our buffet breakfast. Surprisingly, the flautist who was playing at Upre 1559 AD the previous night was waiting to mesmerize us with his melodious tunes once again.
The breakfast spread did disappoint me a little because I’ve experienced much more variety of food in international destinations like Thailand and Indonesia. The comparison I make here is based on the price and standard.
Here is a list of items you can expect during your stay at Lake Pichola Hotel:
- toasted bread
- milk and cornflakes
- fruits like apples, bananas, and papaya
- salad spread
- curd
- paratha
- tea and coffee
- upma
- fried idli
- chicken sausages
- customized omelet
- boiled eggs
- cakes
The last few hours
After breakfast we sat by the Lake Pichola for a while and clicked pictures in the most aesthetic part of the hotel. One service that we did not avail was a paid ferry ride across the Lake Pichola and to the Jag Mandir. The price for this was Rs. 800 each and we were let that pass because we had already gone overbudget with our Udaipur vacation.

We spent the last one hour by the balcony in our room just to experience the lakeview and cherish the beauty of Udaipur one last time. Surprisingly, the hotel didn’t forget to call us exactly at 11:45 am to remind us that it was almost out check-out time. If you look at it this way, you get the room for 22 hours and not 24 hours when booking a day.
