Wanting to stay at a lakeside hotel on your trip to Udaipur is synonymous to living like the royals residing in City Palace. Of course, you’d want to feel the Rajput royalty and what better way than to book a haveli? Today, I am going to give you a list of hotels near Lake Pichola Udaipur and features that make them desirable. In the end, I will also share my experience at Lake Pichola Hotel, which was the one I chose as my luxury retreat.
Hotels near Lake Pichola Udaipur
The best hotels near Lake Pichola Udaipur are also the most expensive. Yes! Royalty comes with a price and that’s also the reason why when we booked our stay at Rs. 10,000 for one night, we spent the entire day here.
I have stayed in three different places in Udaipur. One was a hostel, one was a budget hotel, and another was this luxury palace hotel.
Let us start this list with best 5 star hotels in Udaipur near Lake Pichola and eventually move onto the budget options as well!
1. Taj Lake Palace Udaipur
Udaipur is called the White City and the City of Lakes – both of these resonate best with the Taj Lake Palace. The Jal Mahal (water palace) of Udaipur is situated in the middle of Lake Pichola.
It is the whitest architectural structure you will find here because the rest of the city comes with an off-white hue. Taj Lake Palace is the most aspirational hotel to stay, with prices starting over Rs. 30,000 per night.
The lake palace was built between 1743 and 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II and was called the Jag Niwas. It was a summer retreat for the royals. It offers 65 luxurious rooms and 18 grand suites with multiple restaurants and lounges that exclusively operate for guests.
2. The Leela Palace Udaipur
Leela Palace is another among the top hotels near Lake Pichola Udaipur with prices similar to that of Taj Lake Palace. It comes with a blend of heritage and contemporary interiors spread across 72 luxury rooms and 8 premium suits. With a swimming pool opening up to Pichola with folds of Aravallis in front, it is a spectacle to experience.
3. Shiv Niwas Palace
Shiv Niwas Palace was built towards early 20th century during the reign of Maharana Fateh Singh. It is a crescent-shaped haveli hotel with rooms starting at around Rs. 20,000 and above. The highlight is the architectural structure that overlooks the Lake Pichola and is a walk away from City Palace. It has in-house restaurants like Paantya, Paki Khana, and Panera that serves a variety of cuisines and beverages.
4. Trident Udaipur
Trident can be one more option to choose from amidst the list of hotels near Lake Pichola Udaipur. It locates on the banks of the lake and is spread across 43 acres. The cost per room starts at Rs. 15,000 and above. Trident is semi-luxurious, so this one is a moderately expensive option among the ones mentioned above.
5. The Oberoi Udaivillas
I have walked pass Oberoi in Agra and it is grand but the one in Udaipur is what dreams look like. It is the same hotel that featured in the movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani where Aditi was getting married and the FRIENDS had a grand reunion!
We got a bird’s eye view of the hotel from our budget lakeside stay at Vallabh Garh. Rooms in these luxurious resorts begins at Rs. 50,000 and more. It is spread across 50-acres over a land that was once a hunting ground for the royals.
6. Taj Fateh Prakash Palace
This is another hotel affiliated with Taj, but the price is comparatively lower compare to the lake palace. It is also a heritage property that was built by Maharana Fateh Singh to host guests at Mewar and preserves the erstwhile charm.
The palace homes luxury restaurants and is an extension of the City Palace, making this a few steps away from the prominent site to see. It is located in the eastern side of Lake Pichola and opens up to a lovely view of the calm waters. You can book a stay here at around Rs. 20,000 per night.
7. Lake Pichola Hotel
When you visit Gangaur Ghat in Udaipur, you will find a pretty hotel with symmetrical windows right across. That is the Lake Pichola Hotel that has rooms that open up to the Gangaur Ghat! Yes, the view from the opposite side of the ghat gives an exclusive vantage point and the hotel is semi-luxurious.
We spent one whole day here and paid approximately Rs. 10,000 for one night. It is one of the most expensive hotels that I’ve ever paid for till date, so I wanted to make the most of it.
Our check-in time for 2pm and we were greeted with garland and welcome drink. You can expect similar hospitality across all the 5 star hotels in Udaipur near Lake Pichola.
Our room was the most cost-effective option with off-season prices starting at Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 5000. Since we went during the peak monsoons, the cost was double.
It had a small swimming pool overlooking the Lake Pichola and area across Gangaur Ghat to City Palace. It was mesmerizing and reminded me about Pushkar a lot. But it was definitely much more aesthetic and luxurious.
We had dinner at Upre 1559 AD, which is an in-house restaurant and tried Dungar Maas, non-veg kebab platter, rice, and Rabri.
The hotel offered complimentary breakfast across select veg and non-veg options. But the most beautiful part of the hotel is the lakeside passage full of pink bougainvillea and select seating options that let you enjoy the old charm of Udaipur.
8. Jaydurg Lake Retreat and Vallabh Garh Lake Retreat
You will be surprised to know that there are budget lakeside hotels in Udaipur that start as low at Rs. 700 and go up to around Rs. 3,000 even during peak season. These don’t open up to the lake like you can hop into a ferry and sway away, but you can have a lakeview with folds of mountain in front.
I stayed in Vallabh Garh and dined in Jaydurg as they are both adjacent and are also affiliated to each other. Our stay was magical during the monsoons because we got to see the folds of Aravalli, much unlike the view that we witnessed from Lake Pichola Hotel.
Which hotel should you choose?
One good thing about hotels near Lake Pichola is that they come at varied prices. So, even if you’re choosing the cheapest option, you still get the lakeview. If you afford a luxurious stay, it is best to stay a heritage property where you can feel the vibe of the royal life within the walls that were once palatial residences. This will be missing in the budget options that also locate in the interiors, but those hotels on the contrary, will help you have a cost-effective trip to Udaipur.
