With clear skies, pollution-free air, and breathtaking views, Gangtok is the most visited hill station in Sikkim. Thanks to the best restaurants in Gangtok, amiable locals, and shopping hubs – it’s also the liveliest place in Sikkim. There are plenty of reasons why I keep returning to this heavenly place, situated only 700 km from Kolkata. Of all the things I love about Gangok, the food there has undoubtedly cast a magic spell on me.

Other than its ethereal beauty, Gangtok is known for its momos, gyathuk, shah-phaley, wonton, thukpa, and thenthuk. There are plenty of multi-cuisine restaurants in gangtok to tantalize the taste buds of every traveler.

Wondering which restaurants to visit to have memorable dining experiences? I have curated a list of the best restaurants in Gangtok in the heart of the city.

The Best Restaurants in Gangtok for Foodies

When you are in the mountains, nothing’s more comforting than warm and delicious meals to keep you cozy. Sikkim’s local cuisine is warm, hearty, and delectably comforting, perfect for the chilly mountainous weather.

So, are you excited to explore the authentic flavors that Gangtok has to offer? Here are some of the best restaurants in Gangtok:

Shuffle Momos

Craving some yummy momos served with mesmerizing views of the mountains?

The city has a plethora of gastronomical offerings for foodies and Shuffle Momos will live up to your expectations.

When it comes to having momos, Shuffle Momos is my favorite place in M.G. Marg. As they claim it, their warm momos will warm your soul. Here you’ll find the thinnest momos ever, filled with unique fillings.

The night-time panoramic view of Gangtok from the glass walls of this restaurant is mind-blowing.

What to order

Momo is the most famous food in Gangtok and Shuffle Momos offers a plethora of choices to momo lovers. I was highly impressed by their alu-cheese momos, mushroom momos, and paneer momos. The chicken, pork, beef, and mutton momos are equally tender and juicy.

The chef requested me to try the chilly oil momos, a new addition to their menu, and it was amazing. You should also find some refreshing combinations of cold-pressed juice. Shuffle Momos is the place for you if you are a picky eater.

Taste of Tibet

Famous among tourists and locals for its Tibetan delicacies, Taste of Tibet is among the best restaurants in Gangtok. It’s a quick-service, casual eatery serving palatable Tibetan food and Indianized versions of several Chinese delicacies. Its warm ambience makes it an ideal place to hang out with your loved ones.

As the space is limited, the restaurant remains crowded on the weekends. So, be there early to avoid waiting.

Must-try items

I had the juiciest beef momos in Taste of Tibet. Their chicken and pork momos and thukpas are equally delectable. While they mostly cater to non-vegetarians, their vegetable noodles and sweet corn soup are quite tasty.

Don’t forget to try the Sha phaley here. It will be a treat to remember forever!

Baker’s Café

Of all the cafes in Gangtok, Baker’s Café is a place straight out of a fairytale. It’s a cake and bakery shop where you’ll get the most delicious refreshments and bakery items.

The moment I entered the café, the aroma of freshly baked desserts soothed my senses. The Western-styled interiors of the café makes it an ideal place to click innumerable pictures for your Instagram.

Need more reasons to visit Baker’s Café? You can occupy a window seat and have spectacular views of the hills outside. If the skies are clear, you can be lucky enough to get a glimpse of the mighty Kanchenjungha.

Moreover, it can be challenging to find a place to eat a sumptuous breakfast as most restaurants open late. Baker’s Cafe is also one of those rare restaurants in Gangtok that open early. The friendly smiles of the staff and their warm behavior will make you feel at home.

Must-try dishes

The English Breakfast with poached eggs, sauteed veggies, and tender sausages at Baker’s Café is everything that you need to start a lazy day. Their pies are equally irresistible.

The Irish Coffee, Granny’s Cheesecake, Fig Tart, and Red Velvet Slice are some of the things I relished there.

As the name suggests, Café Life and Loud is a place for live music, great food, and fun time with friends. It is one of the best restaurants in Gangtok as it’s the only music-dedicated bar you’ll find there. The café has an acoustic design that instantly lifted my mood after the hectic journey.

If it’s a sunny day, you will get alluring views of the Kanchenjungha. The place is worth checking out if you wish to enjoy delectable food, good company, and great live performances.

Looking for Gangtok restaurants that specialize in Chinese Cuisine. A sudden craving for greasy and spicy Indo-Chinese food led me to The Dragon Wok. If you are taking a stroll on M.G. Marg, the restaurant is bound to grab your attention. It features twin large dragon statues at the entrance.

The restaurant is spacious and has a balcony overlooking MG Marg. The place is well-lit at night with ambient lighting and live music. I visited for lunch and found the ambience enchanting. The visual representation of the dishes on the menu made it easy for me to place my order.

Nimtho

There is no scarcity of restaurants serving Chinese, Continental, Italian, or Indian food in your city. But it’s hard to find a restaurant that prepares authentic Tibetan, Nepalese, and Sikkimese cuisines. So, when in Gangtok, you must give yourself a chance to fall in love with simple and nutritious Nepalese and Sikkimese food. And what better place to taste these cuisines for the first time than at Nimtho?

The food at Nimtho is simple and wholesome. It is one of the most affordable restaurants in Gangtok where everything on the menu is reasonably priced. Their Instagram-worthy corners with mud walls and traditional utensils will leave you spellbound. The courteous staff will make sure you leave with a smile on your face and a full belly.

What to order

There are very few places in Gangtok that prepare Sikkimese local dishes as perfectly as Nimtho. You cannot afford to bid adieu to this place without savoring their Nakimo Ka Torkari and Sisnu Ko Jhol. Sandheko, Churpi Pisyako, Piro Aloo, Chicken Karchi Marchi, and Ghyuma are two other bestselling dishes worth trying. Patrons also prefer their Mutton Pakku, which is a slow-cooked Nepali dish.

Roll House

What should you eat when you want to take a brief snack break while shopping for woolens, boots, and souvenirs at M.G. Marg? Roll House is the most pocket-friendly food joint for lovers of Kolkata-style food. You can grab a spicy roll at Roll House and get back to buying stylish sweaters and traditional handicrafts.

Though not a restaurant, Roll House is a well-known destination among travelers for serving the best rolls in Gangtok. When you are ravenous, this popular kitchenette will serve you something hot and yummy within minutes.

What to order

While I have tasted several rolls here, I found the Mutton Rolls and Chicken Rolls the most gratifying. All the rolls are crispy from the outside and have an amazing filling. If you’re a vegetarian, the squishy, soft, and protein-rich panner stuffing of the panner rolls will win your heart.
